Keystone Indoor Electric Fly

October 15th, 16th, and 17th, 2010

LITHIUM BATTERY SAFETY

Everyone is aware of the potential fire hazard that exists with the use of Lithium

batteries. Whether it is carelessness or a freak unplanned event, we all have to

be prepared to act in the case of a battery failure. The Keystone Indoor Electric

Fly is taking precautions to prevent an unforeseen situation from becoming

catastrophic.

Six clearly marked pails of sand are located between the flight line and the pit

area. Please familiarize yourself with the locations of these pails. In the even of

a battery failure of ANY KIND, use this sand to smother the battery or bury the

battery in the sand until all is well. Sand is cheap and easily cleaned up, so

dont be afraid to use it! With the estimated large crowd, we do not want

anyone attempting to run outdoors with a malfunctioning battery. There are

ABC type fire extinguishers in the dome, but they WILL NOT extinguish a lithium

battery fire. A class D Fire extinguisher is located at the transmitter impound

and will be available in case of an emergency. All lithium batteries must be

charged in a FIREPROOF CONTAINER. Be sure to double check the voltages

and cell count selections of your charger.

If you have questions, please contact any member of the event staff. Our

goal is to make this event safe and enjoyable for all. Lets all exercise due

diligence and have a fun safe event.

Enjoy the dome!
